One-Bowl Chocolate Banana Bread (with whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour & flax seeds)

If you’ve got overripe bananas sitting on your counter, this is your sign 😊

Not all banana breads are the same.

A simple switch—adding whole wheat flour + flax seeds—can boost fiber without sacrificing taste.

Because healthy eating isn’t about perfection… it’s about smarter everyday choices.

No mixer. No fuss. Just one bowl.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (2–3 bananas)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour (atta)
  • 2–3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp flax seeds (preferably ground)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: chocolate chips or nuts

  • One-Bowl Method (Super Easy)

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
    2. In one large bowl, mash the bananas.
    3. Add eggs, oil, sugar, and vanilla. Mix well.
    4. Add everything else directly into the same bowl:
whole wheat and all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, flax seeds, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
    5. Gently mix until just combined.
      (Don’t overmix—this keeps it soft!)
    6. Fold in chocolate chips or nuts (if using).
    7. Pour into loaf pan and bake for 50–55 minutes.
    8. Cool, slice, and enjoy!

    Nutrition Insight

This is a good example of a balanced swap:

    • Not “sugar-free” → but lower added sugar + higher fiber
    • Not “100% whole wheat” → but more realistic and acceptable for kids

Small changes like this are what make food sustainable long-term
